Food and Filters

It was a big week for food at The Acre this week. Not only eating, but planting. We managed to get the entire garden out this week.
We started out just planting the tomatoes. Then we figured, might as well plant the cabbage plants we had in the sun with the tomato plants. Then we broke out the corn and beans and went nuts. It's how we roll.
And after planting the tomato sets, we decided to go ahead and plant the tomato plant that we rescued back in the fall. We expect tomatoes any day now, since we already have blooms on it.
Fraidy Mutt watched from the safety of the back porch. She's not much on gardening, there's a lot of scary things in the yard, ya know?
It was also the first week we let the first batch of baby birds on the loose. They are big birds now.
We got the oil changed in both trucks this week. Our regular followers may remember that we break the balls of Big Man's "outlaw" because he always said Cupcake's oil filter was too hard to get to, so this time, he took a picture of where it is actually located on her truck.
Yes, that is the bumper

And when we change the oil in the spring, we change the air filters too. As you can see, we don't drive much, the filters really didn't need changing, but we still did it anyway.

So then it's on to the eating part, which is our personal favorite. First off, we had to have steaks and fried squash again. It's a big hit around here.
Then there was from scratch pizza. This week, more from scratch than usual because we ran out of pizza sauce. So not only was the crust made the day of baking, the sauce was too.
Onions, garlic, olive oil. It's a sweet smelling start

Our own canned tomatoes

Pizza dough, on the rise

Sauce ready for spreading

And spread it we did

Pappa John can kiss our behinds
And on a happy note, we got new neighbors this week. Being old school country folks, we baked the new family a peach cobbler, and dropped off a few fresh eggs as a 'welcome to the neighborhood' gesture. They seem like nice folks, we look forward to getting to know them.
Our own peaches make it better

And a couple of nature related items to wrap this post up. We found our first morel mushrooms of the season, and we're really excited about having them for dinner soon.

Salt water soak
And we had a hummingbird come visit us on the back porch. He was actually just bouncing from screen to screen, missing the two open doors completely.
Wings. We ended the week with wings.
