Candy and Comb Overs

Since it seems everyone has a good laugh at Donald Trump's expense, we jumped on the bandwagon this week. We named this one "The Donald"
You can see how it's not so easy to name all our birds, this isn't even half of our flock.
On to the rest of our week. Tomatoes came in this week, and we made sure none went to waste. We picked one basket from our garden, then Pops called and said he had a bunch in his garden come in all at once, and asked if we wanted them. "I'll take silly questions for a thousand, Alex"

One notable tomato, we found one with a horn
Corn and jalapeno peppers are doing well.
We've had corn on the cob just about every night this past week. And we had enough peppers to make a fresh batch of "Lawman Candy". This year we added a little pineapple to the mix, Cupcake found a recipe for a fruity twist, and we are not afraid to try new things around here.

Our deck cabbage really jumped up after a couple days worth of rain.
And the Gem Corn has put out ears on the other side of the deck.
Our non farm related items this week start off with folklore. Every foggy day in August equals the number of snowy days in the coming winter. This was our first of two so far.
A few weeks ago, we started to clean the deck to seal it. Big Man likes to have three sunny days in a row so the deck gets dry one day, one day to seal it, and one day to bake it in. We have been foiled every week until this past one. We had a warm sunny weekend, so Big Man got out and sealed the deck on Monday. We had two sunny days to bake it in, then a good soaking rain.
And only one food related post this week, our new obsession. Buttermilk Pie. We used the smaller pie plate for the second pie, and you can see it fits much better.
We had to call on Brother Kevin to fix a sink for us this weekend, and we will be baking a pie for him and the family in return. We might make one for ourselves while we're at it.
We ended the week with wings.

  1. I tried to eat one of your pickled jalapenos the other day and I thought I got an habanero by mistake! It was HOT!
