Cops and Firemen have a friendly banter between them, cops poke fun at firemen because they "stage" before they come in to an unstable scene, and for good reason. Everybody goes home at the end of the shift.
"The Boy" fulfilled a lifelong dream this past week to get paid to fight fires. He is now the newest member of the 'Moonshine Capitol of the World' aka Franklin County Va Fire Department. He starts the fire academy today, and proud as we can be of him, we are.
Everything is coming up Jake lately. He recently won an award from FVFD #3.The Home Depot gave him a big send off, a watch and a signed smock from all his peoples. We're sure they will miss him.For the rest of us here at The Acre, it was a usual week. We bought 150 tomato plants and neighbor Zach tilled up our gardens for us. We wanted to get them in the ground this week, but mother nature had other ideas. We tried once, but as soon as we got the rows tilled up, the heavens opened up on us. So, maybe next week.
Prior to, Lawman had to work on the pull starter on the tiller and the snow blower. The snow blower, so we could move it to the barn so we can make room for the baby chicks that arrive soon. The tiller, because it didn't work at all.
We're kinda proud of our barn, it's seen some things.
Food this week.
We did sea bass on the Blackstone. Now there is officially nothing we can't cook on the Blackstone.
Right next to the sea bass was a package of perch fillets. Lawman got a taste for perch while he was in the People's Republic of Maryland. He bought that pack too, and Cupcake told the story about the time "crazy granny" tried to cook perch, and smelled up the house for two weeks. Not in a good way. Much better and less drama when Lawman fixed it this week.Cupcake also made a from scratch batch of scalloped potatoes. They were off the hook. And we did a pizza one night.
And a leftover from last week update.
While we were camping last week, we hit a couple of antique shops near the campground, and one of them had a sign in the window advertising comic books. Believe it or not, Cupcake has read up on collecting comics, and was excited to see what they had.
What we found was a couple hundred old comics. Ten cent comics. Her book learning said if you're gonna collect comics, start buying every ten cent comic you can find. We found some we think might be worth investing in. One find was a complete set of 'The Three Mouseketeers' all ten cents.
We also found some mainstream comic titles.'Lois Lane' and 'Superboy' ten cent comics. The Punisher comic wasn't that old, but a quick search on the interwebs says it's a collector item. We just bought it because it was The Punisher, being worth something is just gravy on our grits.
