Recommendations

We have a couple of recommendations this week.

First, we found a new spice/coffee website we love. We've tried the garlic rub, general rub and two kinds of coffee. We kinda like the name too.

The second recommendation is for "Tony's Painting and Power Washing"
We've hired him three times now, as long as Tony is in business, he will have our business.

Our little birds are starting to move out into the yard. They found the apple tree and cherry tree.

A few food notes this week.
First off, we tried something new. Frog legs. Lawman has tried them before but Cupcake never has. We figured we have two ponds full of frogs, we've got built in supplies.

We had some leftover fajita meat from last week, and we hit on the idea of a fajita pizza. Lawman pulled some fresh basil and added to the pie.

And Cupcake whipped up a chicken avacado salad and cheese dip on the side.

Our first bell pepper, fresh from the vine

If anyone ever says they would like "a little mint" this is what they are in store for. Last year we planted a dozen plants and tried all year to keep it alive. Five plants lived into the fall, this is what grew back this spring.
And all week the weatherman said Saturday was going to be cloudy and cool, so we waited to mow the family cemetery until Saturday after family breakfast. It was sunny, humid and "hot as Vulcan."
Moments after we finished, it clouded up and sprinkled rain. Who says the Lord don't have a sense of humor?
We ended the week with frog legs, wings, and naps.

Father's Day

We celebrated father's day this week. Maybe you did too? We don't know.

Last week, Cupcake saw a man wearing a shirt at the local grocery store that she had to have. She searched the interwebs and found the business that sells the shirt and ordered one for Lawman. She also picked up a drink tumbler for herself.

Pop asked for a dogwood tree a while back, and we thought it would make a nice father's day gift. We found one and gifted it to him after our weekly biscuits and gravy breakfast. We struck on the idea of putting Denephew to work digging the hole. It worked out really well.
After Henry got the hole dug, we set the tree and let him finish the planting.

After we got the tree planted, Pop gave the roots a good soak.
After we got the tree planted, we went to work at the barn garden, staking up the tomato plants.

And after a long day working in the sun, we sat on the front porch and enjoyed a couple of throwback soda pops.
You may have noticed the jar of pickles? If you didn't, look again. Between Sunday breakfast and dogwood tree planting, we made our first batch of sweet pickles.
Cupcake used her new snowflake jars. She found a large collection of them at the Radford Food City, and recently they've had the jars on clearance, Clarence. And one thing we love more than pickles, is a bargain.

It's the first of many, we promise.
Earlier in the week, we had a request for a few pies. Lawman cut out a day and set it aside for pie baking. He started off with scratch made shells.
For the choco pie, Lawman got to use his new tool, pie weights.
Then he moved on to the buttermilk pies.
Lawman also made a batch of banana nut bread cookies.
One of our favorite times of the year is fruit picking time. The cherry tree is full of fruit this year.

We're also getting a steady flow of black raspberries and blueberries.
We didn't get our weekend naps in this week, but we did have a soda pop on the porch, so we'll call it a wash this week.

So Many Babies

We had a brood of ducks hatch this week. We've had three ducks on a nest for the past month, and we never could get a count on how many eggs they had under them. Monday morning we found three sitting on mom's back, and by Tuesday one of the mother ducks brought 18 babies out of the coop. Over the next few days, the numbers went up and down. We had as many as 22, but last count before this update we had 16. We blame hawks and raccoons. We found hawk feathers around the ponds, and "the boy" saw two raccoons down by the pond hunting the littles. Lawman says he can fix the raccoon problem, the law frowns on shooting hawks.

The DT's are fascinated by the baby ducks. Lawman thinks they want to eat them, Cupcake thinks they want to protect them. Either way, the ducks have their attention.
The week has pretty much been geared toward little birds. We did a little work in the gardens this week, it's been dry so we've been beating down the weeds. Lawman changed the oil in the 4 wheeler. And there was some food.
On steak and tater night we added a 'surf' to our dinner with some leftover salmon. Cupcake made her soon to be world famous salmon cakes.

We whipped them up on the Blackstone.
Another favorite this week, Cupcake requested fried squash. And what Cupcake wants, Cupcake gets.

It was store bought squash, but it's better than no fried squash at all.
We ended the week with a couple naps, and chicken wings.
