Easy being Green

 The garden took up most of our week this week. We were either tilling it or picking something out of it. We started off with another batch of collards. We did better this week and got a picture of them after we worked them up in the food processor. We still don't have a picture of the finished product because we are in too big of a hurry to eat them. Maybe next week?

We got our first squash this week, so you know Cupcake got fried squash for dinner.

More cucumbers came in, so six more jars of sweet pickles are hidden somewhere in the house now.

The basil is still coming in. We're cutting and drying it, but we used some fresh cuts in a pot of sketti one night.

And the garden wasn't enough of a challenge to keep us busy, so we started picking blackberries and red raspberries. 

We've got a couple of gallons frozen, but next week Lawman says he's going to make a blackberry/rhubarb pie. Because he's mastered pie crust now.

Speaking of pie crust. Cousin Tommy made a donation to the family cemetery a while back, so Lawman asked if there was a pie/cake he could whip him up to say thank you. A pecan pie was the request.

When Lawman got it finished, Cupcake said it looked so good, she was going to need one of her own. The next day, she got one.

We ended the week with pie and naps.

Out with the Old

 We celebrated the 4th yesterday. Because we're old and need a day to recover from any shenanigans. Not that we have any shenanigans, we were all packed back up and had everyone gone by 1900hrs. We were born to be mild.

But starting off the week we had to make some repairs around The Acre. Lawman was cruising through the bedroom one day, and since it was a little warm outside, he decided to up the speed on the bedroom ceiling fan. But, his massively over developed delts ripped the switch cord from the fan, leaving it in the "off" position. 

Cupcake said that just wouldn't do, so we drove to the local hardware shop and picked up a new fan. 

Lawman broke out his wire kit and had the new fan up in under an hour. No blood, no fires, and not one single tool thrown to the end of the driveway (we're looking at you, Outlaw).

Other fix it things this week, we got out and started painting the trim around our windows and staining the steps. We worked on the shaded side of the house. We'll work on the back of the house next week after work when the shade is out back.

We found a recipe for drunken collard greens and since we have a garden full of collard greens, we made a batch. 

We had no leftovers.

Our basil started getting so big we had to cut it back. We strung it up to dry to use later. 

It shouldn't be much longer before our tomatoes start coming in. We've already got a few off the back porch.

And our first cucumbers of the year came in. So we've switched from mint water to cucumber and basil water.

And we have had cucumber and onions for dinner each night.

Lawman did a little baking. He made a pound cake and a batch of choco cookies.

And Cupcake made her grandmother's recipe for chopped steak one night.

That brought us to Sunday. We pretended to camp except for the camp fire. It was warm enough without a fire.

We ended the week with a hootinanny. Until 7ish, then everyone had to be gone.

Recommendations

 We have a couple of recommendations this week. 

First, we found a new spice/coffee website we love. We've tried the garlic rub, general rub and two kinds of coffee. We kinda like the name too.

The second recommendation is for "Tony's Painting and Power Washing"

We've hired him three times now, as long as Tony is in business, he will have our business.

Our little birds are starting to move out into the yard. They found the apple tree and cherry tree.

A few food notes this week.

First off, we tried something new. Frog legs. Lawman has tried them before but Cupcake never has. We figured we have two ponds full of frogs, we've got built in supplies. 

We had some leftover fajita meat from last week, and we hit on the idea of a fajita pizza. Lawman pulled some fresh basil and added to the pie.

And Cupcake whipped up a chicken avacado salad and cheese dip on the side.

If anyone ever says they would like "a little mint" this is what they are in store for. Last year we planted a dozen plants and tried all year to keep it alive. Five plants lived into the fall, this is what grew back this spring.

And all week the weatherman said Saturday was going to be cloudy and cool, so we waited to mow the family cemetery until Saturday after family breakfast. It was sunny, humid and "hot as Vulcan."

Moments after we finished, it clouded up and sprinkled rain. Who says the Lord don't have a sense of humor?

We ended the week with frog legs, wings, and naps.
