June Berries

First order of business was yard sale finds. We hit paydirt this week. We found a five gallon crock, with intact handles. The good people selling it had no idea what they had (apparently) and we picked this little gem up for a song.

We got a pretty big picking of strawberries this week, and we made good use of them.
We cut out a pint or so, and made a batch of home made strawberry ice cream.

We enjoyed a bowl after dinner. We even opened up two cups of sherbert for Fraidy Mutt. She got a cool treat too, it was a warm evening.
We also got our first picking of collard greens from the garden. We made good use of them one night.
We had a couple slices of smoked brisket left, and we cubed it up and used it to season the greens, it was the best batch of greens we've made yet. And what's collards without a little fried catfish in buttermilk/cornmeal batter?
But back to the berry situation, we took the leftover berries and made a batch of strawberry jelly.
The raspberries are green on the vine, so we hope in a week or so, we will have a canning of them to show off.
We also had to add dirt to the potato boxes. In one week's time, they grew a full six inches. They are really taking off, we are keeping our fingers crossed for good results.

This week also marks the one week birthday of the guinea birds. We have decided to name them Larry, Moe, and Curly. They spend a lot of time running in to each other during the day.
We ended the week with Chicken Wing Sunday.
