We have had a rouge guinea in the woods for over a month. We assumed she was sitting on a nest of eggs. This week we were proven right. The mother bird brought the new guineas out in to the open.
The keets looked like little fluffy Ewoks climbing over the grass blades in the yard. The first day was rough. Mom walked along and the littles would 'fall out' where they were. This picture, they were in a straight line when they gave out.
After a couple of days, they got strong enough to follow along everywhere mom went. They are just so stinking cute.
Our neighbor stopped by Thursday and picked up our guinea birds we hatched, so the garage is a lonely place now.
Tuesday we walked out to check on the progress of our cucumbers and found we had enough small ones to make a cucumber/onion/vinegar salad we enjoy.
We also picked some more green tomatoes for fried green tomatoes.
Friday night was the end of the month, that means Cupcake has to work at least 18 hours. Lawman went to town and bought groceries, and picked up a whole roaster chicken to smoke for dinner. It went well with the fried green tomatoes.
It was also slice up new steak day. Now we have another three months worth of steaks in the tube.
And Lawman found cherries on sale. We recently used every cherry we could get our hands on for jelly, so he bought a couple of bags to eat on. Saturday we sliced some for pancakes.
And our new obsession is BBQ sauce on our eggs. Cupcake saw a page on the Face Place where people would put this brand sauce on eggs. We bought a bottle and tried it, it's really good.
For dessert this week, Lawman made a batch of chocolate chip cookie dough and we would bake a fresh batch of cookies every night after dinner.
Saturday morning after breakfast, we walked out to check on our cucumber supply again and found we had more than we expected to find. We picked all we had and made a command decision to make dill pickles.
Of course we used fresh cut dill from the deck herb garden. And Cupcake even wanted to add onions to the last couple of jars we made.
We had a big day Saturday. After we made pickles we got ready to go to town to do some trading. Lawman's pal "Cook" was in town for the weekend. Together they were "Cook&Cook Inc. MD.MP.SP." We visited him and his mother, dropped off a few canned goodies then went to dinner with another HS pal, Danny. We haven't assigned a code name for Danny yet, but he was a "zoomie" with Cook after school.
Anyway, we were out way past our bedtime. Sunday we took it easy and rested up.
Our last picture this week is the front of our house. The camera will not take very good low light pictures but we tried to show off our support for police and military.
We ended the week with wings.
