Cupcake calls Lawman at 0500hrs.
CC: "Did I wake you up?"
LM: "Nah, I had to get up and answer the phone anyway"
CC: "Oh my God, who called you this early in the morning?"
LM: Blink Blink
She made it back home and we got to bed around 0200 Friday morning, but she had to be on a call by 8 so we were somewhat sleep deprived by the weekend. Sunday morning we opened up the garage before Pop came over for breakfast, and we found Virginia Tech colored balloons in the driveway. We thought if this was a practical joke, it was both funny and well executed.
And as you can see from this picture, we got another shot of snow Sunday morning as well. It's almost like somebody put "Crazy Granny" in charge of the weather this year, and she's off her meds.
But back to the beginning of the week. Lawman and Pop took his brand new minnow seine for a spin, and caught a grand total of six minnows. Lawman said it was like Forrest Gump dumping his shrimp net. So they took their six minnows to Claytor Lake Tuesday morning and tried their hand at crappie fishing. Cupcake has never had fresh fish, so the plan was to catch enough for a fry when she got back.
They tossed the live minnows into the sweet spots, but had no bites.
So they decided to go back to the boat ramp for a potty break and a quick lunch. While they were docked they saw fish under the dock via the fish finder. Lawman had a "as seen on TV" Banjo minnow on the line, so he tossed it under the dock and BAM!
It wasn't a crappie, but it will do for a small taste. If Cupcake likes this, we will be returning to the lake soon for more. Hopefully with a little more in the way of live bait.
We had no idea 'that kind of crowd' came to the lake |
He stopped off at the local Kroger for lunch.
He bought a truckload of red cedar boards last week. He took an afternoon and sawed up a storm. His new nail gun made quick work of the project.
Lawman got to open up a batch of our homemade tomato soup, and fried up a couple of signature grilled cheese sandwiches. Habenaro cheese with pepperoni in cast iron.
Cupcake complained none of the food in Texas tasted right, so as soon as she got back Lawman whipped her up a scratch made biscuit with fried sausage and bacon for Friday breakfast.
And to polish off the week, we took several naps. Then we made fried chicken wings and a fresh chocolate pie for the coming week.
