When Lawman was a wee lad, his grandparents bought a new refrigerator. The fridge lasted them their lifetime, and well into Pop's. Pop moved out of the old white house and took their fridge with him and kept it in his basement for an extra. It came in handy around the holidays for defrosting turkeys and hams and whatnot. It just gave up the ghost a couple of years ago, by our guestimation, it lasted over 40 years running every day.
Lawman bought a new fangled fridge when The Acre was completed eleven years ago, and it gave out this week. We noticed the icecream cups we give the Dudley twins usually takes a good five minutes for them to finish, but Thursday evening it was gone in 30 seconds. Next morning, the ice tray had started melting, then the fridge started warming up. We had to spend Friday shopping the local spots for a replacement but none were in stock. So this week we will be living out of the Lawman's deer meat cooler. To quote his FTO from the peoples republic, "it's like camping but with better furniture."
Prior to living like campers, we had a bit of rain keeping us inside. Lawman took the time to start making our winter soap. We like pumpkin spice flavored soap for fall/winter. We use organic pumpkin spice and clove oil to zest up the lye soap.
We made over 40 bars, which should get us to spring.
With fall approaching, that means we get to walk out to the garden and pick dinner. We don't know why everyone wouldn't have a garden.
So with fried cabbage and corn on the cob, Lawman smoked a chicken.
And Cupcake made a batch of Peppermint Patty cupcakes. These things are addictive.
Sunday morning after family breakfast and cleanup, we went to the garden and picked a poke full of jalapeno peppers and made Lawman candy.
This picking made three jelly jars and three pints. We canned up the leftover syrup because Cupcake likes to flavor up her tacos with the syrup and we hate to waste anything.
We ended the week with wings and a nap.
