We learned from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" that if you kill an animal and then eat it while remembering a past event, it's a ritual sacrifice. Thanksgiving is a ritual sacrifice. With pie.
Anywho, we ate a dead bird to commemorate the first Thanksgiving, maybe you did too? We don't know.
We started out by giving the ol girl a good rubdown with 'Lawman' spices and flavored rubs. Then we smoked her low and slow We started a couple of days early. Lawman whipped up two pies at once. Pumpkin spice and pecan. He started out with scratch made buttermilk pie crusts. Some day we will tell future generations making pie crusts used to be hard. Then it was on to the pie fillings
We also make scratch made stuffing, which means we have to make the cornbread two days in advance so it can get a little stale before we use it. And none of that 'Crazy Granny' from a box BS, either. The next part of the stuffing is the turkey guts. We boil the neck and gizzards/heart and dice them up to put in the stuffing mix.
Then the big day rolled around, and we worked together in the kitchen like a couple of small gears inside a well oiled machine.
Cupcake's soon to be world famous corn pudding, with fresh from the garden corn that we canned earlier in the year.
Cupcake made fresh sweet potato casserole this year, in the crockpot. It's our new favorite. As 'Denephew' would say, "half eggs"And even though we were steady working, there was still time for some shenannigans Cupcake then made her famous blueberry jello Mac and cheese. And not the 'Crazy Granny' recipe of Stoffers with dog cheese layered on top, this is grate the cheese, boil the noodles and pour on the cream Mac and cheese.Lawman is responsible for gravy, mashed potatoes and dinner rolls. And Cookie's favorite, home made cranberry sauce. We're just poking fun. She likes that sugar jelly in a can crap, because according to "Bob's Burgers"
Sixteen quarts. That's four gallons for our math impared followers. We're excited to have a fresh batch.
