Last week we published the 200th update. We'd like to thank the two or three people who read it.
Moving on to 201, we start off with food. Our cousins Bill and Francis gave us a cast iron cornbread mold last year, but we got out of the cornbread menu before we got to use it. This week the summer heat left us and fall weather moved in. We made a big ol batch of deer chili, and you have to have cornbread with deer chili, so we killed two birds with one stone Monday night.
Friday night was the end of the month, so Cupcake had to work until midnight. Lawman whipped up her favorite pizza. Pineapple and ham.
And Saturday morning we broke open our first jar of home canned pumpkin for pumpkin pancakes.
And for Sunday snacks, we made our first round of home made caramel for the season.
The eggs we made for Sunday morning breakfast had fresh from the garden green peppers. There is nothing like the "crack" when you slice a fresh from the vine pepper. You can taste the difference.
And we're still stringing and drying cayenne peppers. We will be some spicy food eating people this winter.
And on a food related note, we cook so much we had to order a new cast iron dutch oven, because sometimes we have so much cooking at once we need the real estate. Cupcake wanted purple this time.
And one of us got a hankering for fresh made chocolate chip cookies, so that happened.
And we dug a hill of sweet potatoes from the garden this week. We only dug one, just to see what we would find. We are quite pleased, and look forward to digging the rest.
Working towards picking things, we snapped a picture of our daily fetish. We are still picking one pale full of marigold blooms each day. We will be the Johnny Appleseed of marigolds next year.
Cupcake did some more decorating this week. We cut the broom corn and a few stalks from our garden and used the old milk jug.
Gourds
Last week we reported on our bobcat problem. Amazon came through with a speedy delivery so Lawman began his trap lines.
He put all six out along the spring that runs through the property. So far we've only caught one really big opossum and two raccoons. But we've lost chickens to both of those as well, so at least we're cutting down on predators.
Lawman even found that one spot he picked was so good, someone else picked it as well.
Mostly we tried to put the traps under logs to keep cows from wearing new foot bling. This is what a set trap looks like in nature.
One of our favorite things to do is to try and predict what mother nature has in store for us in the coming winter. One sign we look for is spider webs. The higher the web, the deeper the snow you can look forward to. This is not a good sign.
So we started looking for snowblowers.
We ended the week with wings.
