Crazy Cookie

I bet you thought of Crazy Granny when you saw that, didn't ya?

We just baked a bunch of cookies this week. We started out with pecan sandies, if you follow us on the Face Place you saw the story.

Then Sunday, Cupcake said it was time to start making practice runs for the holiday cookie extravaganza. Lawman's favorite is oatmeal raisin, so that's what we made.

Keeping on the food thread, we had a small batch of deer chili this weekend. Lawman had two deer roasts left in the freezer, so to free up real estate for the new batch that's coming, we used one for chili, except one slice that went for Cupcake's favorite. Deer gravy on Sunday morning.

It's tough to beat anything you can make when you walk out to the garden and grab a couple of onions, fresh peppers and grind up your very own horseradish.
And we fixed a chicken in the crock pot early in the week. We kept the bones and made a gallon of broth with the leftovers.

One last food related item. If you season your cast iron correctly, you can bake biscuits in it without them sticking.
Our big project this week was crab apple trees. Cupcake found a tree she really liked so Lawman found them on the interwebs and ordered two. A couple of days later, he found another site that had trees for a fraction of the price of these two. So now we have seven crab apple trees to our name, but these two arrived Friday and we planted them Saturday, with a little help from "The Boy" and the Dudley Twins.

It was also that time of year, after Deathstroke got an oil change last week, he got a wash and wax this week, winter prep is all done.

We ended the week with wings. And a nap.

All Weekend

This weeks update pretty much just covers the weekend. We had a visit on Monday from "The Beamer" but we didn't think to snap pictures.

This week we found out the DT's are going to be good watchdogs after all. Up until now, they would lick new visitors to death, but we encountered a stranger while we were taking off the trash one afternoon, and they tried to eat him alive. It's comforting to know they would step up if need be. Later that afternoon they continued their watch, but needed to rest while they were doing it.

One afternoon Lawman shaved off some lamb meat and made a couple of gyros for lunch.
We got a notification from Deathstroke that the oil was ready to be changed. We bought a couple of filters for him, and changed it out Sunday afternoon.

After a Sunday nap, we had chicken wings

And Lawman made Cupcake a cherry cobbler for dessert. In an homage to "Crazy Granny" we used canned cherry pie filling, but the rest was scratch.

Cupcake's Bitch Barn

Our big surprise finally arrived this week. We ordered the BB in June, construction was complete the first week of August, but mother nature kept the rain on the road until this week.

We ordered a shed from the Pine View people a few years back, and turned it into the Slanty Shanty for the birds. After the ponds were done last year, we've planned on a little cabin down by the water to serve as a base camp for get togethers and shindigs and whatnots.

This time instead of off loading it from the trailer, they set it off in the driveway, then hooked a fork lift looking vehicle to it, and transported it to the spot.

Our next plan for the BB is to have a ten foot deck built on the front to give us plenty of room to entertain. So if anyone reading does deck work, or knows someone who does, reach out.

Before we got the BB in, we did something we've never done before. Lawman was inspired by a high school buddy a few weeks ago to try lamb. Lawman has had lamb many times when he lived in the People's Republic of Maryland, Greek food is a thing up there. But he's never cooked lamb before. We found a boned leg of lamb at BJ's last week, and he decided to try and smoke it. Research was done on proper temperature and marinade.

It only had to get to 145* internal, so it only took a few hours to cook. Lawman took it off and let it rest for a few hours prior to slicing.

It was tender enough to cut with a fork. We enjoyed it quite a bit, but not as much as The Dudley Twins. While it was resting, Augustus got his head stuck in the door while trying to get inside.
We had enough left over that we could supplement their dry food with a little chopped up lamb meat. And Willow being the little helper that she is, picked up a pear while she was out in the yard one evening and brought it back. So lamb and pear one day.
To celebrate Cupcake's new Bitch Barn, she requested a choco cake with choco icing. Lawman found a recipe for cream cheese chocolate icing and made it from scratch to go on the scratch made cake.

He won't win any cake decorating contests, but it sure was good.

We ended the week with wings.

Peck of Peppers

We picked a peck of peppers this week. Probably a couple three pecks.
The Dudley Twins hung out with us while we were in the garden, they even helped a little.
Willow found she likes peppers
While Augustus stuck with the tried and true pear
Sunday morning after the family breakfast, we got busy making jalapeno jelly.
We had two full cookings of peppers, three batches per cook, three pints per cook. We ended up with 18 jars of jelly. We had everything done, kitchen cleaned and a nap under our belt in under four hours.
Earlier in the week we stocked some more minnows, this time in the big pond.

The DT's went along with. They love the ponds as much as we do.

We were down by the bee hives with the DT's when they went exploring. They found the back side of the creek, which is down over a steep bank. While they were down in the creek, we saw we have a whole new spring flowing. Since Lawman was a wee lad, this creek bed had been dry.

We're guessing the water table is higher than it's ever been? You can't have enough fresh water when the government collapses or the zombies come, so we're cool with it.
Food wise, Cupcake requested a choco cake this week. Lawman had one in the oven ten minutes after she asked for one. He asked if Crazy Granny could get a cake in the oven that fast, and Cupcake said "Shit, she couldn't get the Duncan Hines box open in ten minutes"
No box cakes here at The Acre.

Cupcake cut up and fried some Mexican chips, tortillias cut and fried, then sprinkled with sugar powder.

Then she made patty melts another night.
And she made them while wearing her new sweatshirt
