Let's Eat

All food this week. We've been stuck inside most of the week and the only thing to do is cook and eat. Well, anything we can talk about in a family setting.

To start the week off, we roasted a fresh batch of coffee.

And a fresh batch of choco chip cookies goes well with a fresh pot of coffee. And we don't do "Crazy Granny" tubes of cookie dough, it's all scratch made all the time.

Pizza. Because we make our own sauce. And our own crust. When we get a milking cow, we will make our own cheese.

The slacker birds have started laying on a regular basis, so we took a couple dozen eggs and made a jug of pickled eggs with juice from our home grown pickled beets.
Cupcake made a big ol dish of lasagna one night. We used our home grown and canned sketti sauce (or "Gravy" as the Soprano's say)
And as is our new tradition, we made fresh baked doughnuts for Sunday breakfast.

We ended the week with naps, and leftover Italian.

Ice, Ice, Baby

We were talking Sunday morning about how perfect this ice storm has been. It came overnight, it didn't stick to the roads, and stuck to the trees just enough to look pretty in the sun, but not break anything across power lines. Then we went up to the family cemetery and had to do work. But before that, it was pretty.

We took off the trash and let the DT's tag along, because they love to run and jump and play at the cemetery. We found the road was blocked.

We went back to The Acre and picked up the chain saw and a log chain, and headed back to open the road up.

After we got the road open, the twins ran and jumped and played until they were worn out, and we came back home.
While we were iced in the house, we did a few inside things. The DT's needed "nite nite treats" so Lawman made corn muffins for them.
Cupcake said while Lawman was in the kitchen, she wouldn't mind a batch of choco chip cookies. So that's what she got.
Lawman made 1.5 gallons of laundry detergent one morning.

Lawman has gotten the hang of Sunday biscuits. The DT's enjoy the leftovers for nite nite treats too.
Choco doughnuts are becoming part of Sunday morning as well.
After a big Sunday morning, we ended the week with wings. And a nap.

Valentimes by Candle Light

We celebrated Valentines Day this week. We figure most of you did too, and just in case you still don't have windows, we included some ice pictures from around The Acre.

We start off at the end of the week. The ice caused massive power outages in the area, but we are geared to live like the Waltons so we didn't skip a beat. We had a big pot of beans started before they turned off the juice to us, and we always have cornbread with our beans. The generator had enough juice for the crock pot, but to work the electric griddle we had to go without kitchen lights. Cornbread pancakes is what we had.

Home made coleslaw to top it all off.
And choco covered strawberries, cause we all romantic like that.

We enjoyed another pecan pie.

Lawman whipped up a pizza for dinner one night. From scratch, none of that frozen pizza from the store but "I baked it at home, so it's home made" jazz from Crazy Granny.

About once a week, we roast green coffee beans for the coming week. We've almost dialed in the perfect bean.

Sunday it started to warm up and the ice began to fall off the trees, so we decided to take the DTs for a walk and check out how many trees were damaged. Cupcake, being the "Voodoo" chick was saying how she hoped none of the trees fell while we were down by the ponds. And at that very moment, a big ass branch fell right behind us and blocked the road.
So far, it's just really pretty. We will probably be singing a different tune come spring.

We ended Valentines Day as romantic as we know how. Wings and a nap.

Super Bowl

We dont watch football. Everyone who knows us knows that, but we do like to eat like we watch the super bowl. We make finger foods and "graze" all day long, then ended up binge watching season two of "True Detective" and a couple episodes of "The Sopranos" before bed.

Early in the week we got a delivery we had been waiting for, Leadslinger bourbon. One bottle is for drinkin, the other one is for....looking through.

Then we got the week rolling with Cupcake's birthday. She requested a white cake with chocolate icing, and Lawman went to work.

A little mouse sampled the cake before he could frost it.
After birthday goings on, we got another delivery. Our second order of vanilla beans. Cupcake opened these up and scraped out the good stuff to speed up the extract process.

We also bought up a big chunk of Rural King's seed display. We are ready for spring, anytime Mom nature springs it.

The weekend rolled around, and we got another snow. We love snow. The DT's love snow. And Cupcake wanted blueberry doughnuts for breakfast.

Plus we opened up another jar of our home made cranberry juice to have with breakfast. We left it outside in the snow to get it properly chilled overnight.
Then by Sunday we rolled out the buffet. Lawman made his soon to be world famous guac dip.

Cupcake made bean dip. Then we threw in some store bought (crazy granny home made) weenie tots, dumplings and chicken nuggets for The Boy. The one thing we usually end the week with we skipped this week, because we figured everyone else was having them.
